Printing Process

Q: Can you tell me more about your printing process - what am I getting?

A: All prints have long-term archival qualities and under good conditions will last between 100-200 years before any fading occurs. You can visit www.wilhelm-research.com for more information.

When framing or placing prints in an album, you must ensure that you purchase frames/ albums that are acid-free, otherwise your prints could rot. You can contact me for information about professional framing companies that utilise conservative acid free materials in your area.

If you are mounting behind glass we strongly suggest using a matt finish to cut down on reflections.

Security

Q: I am concerned about security. Is it safe for me to buy images from your website?

A: I utilise the industry standard for selling images: Photoshelter. This is a fully secure site for buying my photography. All of your details are held in the strictest of confidence and never passed on to any parties other than Photoshelter and my printing partners. Your details are used only for the purposes of providing you imagery, they will not be passed or sold on to other parties.

Troubleshooting Purchasing

Q: When I try to add an image to my cart, or a lightbox, nothing happens - why is this?

A: 1. Your Javascript settings may be set to block Javascript. Javascript is a language used throughout this website and its functions are completely safe. Many organizations have set up their web browsers to block Javascript since (incorrectly) they confuse it with Java. Also it is very common to set a browser's security to 'High', resulting in website functionality not working. To alter the security settings in your web browser, please follow the simple instructions here: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/help/faq/browsers/browsers-63474.html

A: 2. Or if this fails to work... Check that your browser enables popup windows - if it does, but there are filters for certain websites, please add the following websites to the safe list: brownphotographic.com and photoshelter.com

Watermark

Q: What about the image copyright watermark?
A: This is only for preview purposes. This watermark is removed for all products that are sold here.

Image Quality

Q: What are the quality of the images I will get after I buy your photos?

A: All of the images that you see here (with the exception of some of my much older collections) have been captured with professional digital equipment and lenses (Canon 1DS series). Every image that you buy, whether it be in digital or print form starts life as an extremely high resolution file, far larger than the small previews that you see on the screen here. In addition, my color managed workflow and the high quality printing ensure accurate color reproduction in all of my products.

Color

Q: The colors look different on my monitor to those that I get in my prints - why is this?

A: My fully color managed workflow ensures that the colors that I see on my monitors matches those that you get in your prints. If you see that there is a difference between the colors on-screen and in-print then I would suggest that your monitor is not correctly calibrated. I do still listen however, so if you think your monitor is fine and you've got some strange colors in your prints please do let me know about this.

Printing my own prints

Q: I can get prints made at Wal-Mart for cheaper - can you just give me the images and I'll do the printing myself?

A1: For prints that you purchase online, I use a professional printing laboratory to deliver you the finest of prints direct to your door. When you are buying a print from me, not only are you purchasing a far higher quality product that you can buy on the street, but you are also purchasing the art within the printed products. All of the prints that I deliver are fully colour corrected and printed on professional quality archival papers.

A2: For clients that receive high resolution files, they are allowed to use (subject to copyright) these images for printing and in these cases I always recommend going to a reputable printing company such as Apex Photo, Portland Color or Mpix.
